С тех пор доля нефти в глобальном потреблении энергоресурсов постоянно растет: если в 1900 году на долю нефти приходилось 3% мирового энергопотребления, то к 2000 году этот показатель вырос до 65%, и это не предел. Стремительное повышение спроса на нефть подтолкнуло нефтедобывающие компании обратить свой взор в сторону моря – ведь под толщей Мирового океана находится около 70% совокупных мировых объёмов нефти, и это оказалось чертовски веским доводом для организации нефтедобычи на морских просторах.
