Поселок Долми находится на самом юге Хабаровского края. Местные жители всегда существовали за счет добычи древесины. Но запасы кедра истощились еще в советское время. А жесткие квоты на рубку березы и осины привели к тому, что на лесозаготовке рабочих мест почти не осталось.
В самом лесу — жесткая конкуренция, которую человек проигрывает. Законы государства и природы окончательно сделали хозяином тайги амурского тигра. Большие кошки охотятся не только на кабанов и изюбрей, но даже на домашних собак. Своих питомцев людям приходится разве что прятать.
В конце 80-х поселок должны были ликвидировать, как это происходило с населенными пунктами, вокруг которых заканчивался кедр. Но перестройка спасла Долми, отложив его вымирание на десятилетия. И этот процесс продолжается.
