Три села «потерялись» между двумя границами — украинской и белорусской. 20 лет назад их стёрли со всех карт. Остались десятки километров фактически ничейного Полесья. Де-юре — сёла украинские, де-факто — находятся за пределами контрольно-пропускного пункта.
Здесь нет ни сельсовета, ни магазина, ни школы, ни почты, ни аптечного киоска. Но здесь живут люди. Три десятка тех, кто так и не смог покинуть родные края. Путь к селам лежит через КПП, лес и бездорожье.
Глава Руднянского сельсовета, к которому вроде бы как относятся отрезанные села, несколько раз в неделю ездит в те края за 30 километров. Регулярные встречи с пограничниками с таможенниками в дороге – гораздо приятнее, чем с дикими волками и кабанами. Эта женщина – единственная ниточка, соединяющая отрезанных жителей с цивилизацией.
1944 год. Одесса, освобожденная от немецко-румынской оккупации, начинает жить мирной жизнью. Однако по сведениям военной разведки в городе продолжает действовать агентурная сеть Абвера, из числа завербованного местного населения и прибывших профессионально обученных диверсантов. В Москве формируется специальная оперативная группа из следователей СМЕРШа и военной прокуратуры, которая направляется в Одессу для усиления местных органов власти и милиции. В состав спецподразделения, руководимого капитаном СМЕРШа Виктором Звягиновым, входят следователи военной прокуратуры Светлана Елагина и Иван Рокотов, потерявшие друг друга во время отступления из Харькова в 1941 году и вновь встретившиеся после долгой разлуки…
